About Imaflora

Imaflora (institute for agricultural and forest management and certification) is a non-profit Brazilian organization established in 1995 to encourage both conservation and sustainable use of natural resources and promote social benefits in the forest and agricultural sectors.

Imaflora is recognized as a reference in the assessment of forest and agricultural projects for certification purposes. In addition, it carries out activities related to training and capacity building, public policy development and incentives towards responsible consumption of forest and agricultural products. Imaflora’s main areas of work are the following:

  • Socioenvironmental certification This involves two programs: Forest Certification Program and Agricultural Certification Program. The objective of these programs is to promote socioenvironmental improvements in forest and agricultural projects, as required by certification.
  • Mobilization and qualification This deals with projects that encourage responsible production and consumption and the capacity building of people and organizations, so that they can implement positive changes in forest and agriculture production models.
  • Public policies This area encourages the participation of persons involved in forest and agricultural activities by means of projects that develop and promote information on socioenvironmental concepts, transparency and social control in public policies.
